Every year, the Asian American Student Assembly (AASA) hosts a welcome event at the beginning of the school year that includes a number of speeches and performances that captures the attention of the UF student body. This was my first time attending and what an incredible experience it was! It was great to see what a community the AASA has built and how they all come together to support each other and put on such an amazing show. My favorite parts were seeing the Indian Student Association perform Indian dances and getting to see KevJumba perform as well! This was an amazing experience for me because it was one of the few times I genuinely got to see people connect through culture. Also, as a huge fan of the arts, especially music and dance, it was cool to see different types that I never have as well.
